Peter Giunta of New York announced today his candidacy for Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) and the launch of his RestoreYR ticket.
Giunta, who currently serves as Chairman of the New York State Young Republicans (NYSYR) and has been credited with breathing life back into the organization, expressed his intention to run in a letter to the YRNF’s National Committee last night, comprising Young Republican leaders from nearly all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
“[T]he Young Republican National Federation earned a reputation for not just electing Republicans but also cultivating leaders [and has] kept the Republican Party moving forward in the face of an ever-evolving American electorate. But that legacy has faded,” Giunta said in his announcement letter.
“Despite a Republican Party that is stronger and more united than ever, the Young Republican National Federation has become fractured and ineffective,” stated Giunta. “I’m running for Chairman to restore trust, opportunity, and unity within an institution that is so vital to the strength and success of our Republican Party.”
Giunta is responsible for leading a transformative revitalization of the NYSYR over the past three years that has seen the organization grow from just six chapters in 2021 to more than 30 today and has raised nearly half a million dollars to support the development of Young Republicans and election operations around the state. Under his stewardship, the NYSYR has contributed greatly to the Republican Party’s resurgence in New York, helping to elect hundreds of candidates around the state, including more than 120 Young Republicans across every level of government.
Giunta, a millennial and lifelong Republican from Staten Island, NY, has occasionally appeared on Fox News and CNN to discuss the 2024 election. In 2019, he was recognized as one of City & State magazine’s “40 Under 40 New York City Rising Stars” and, in 2022, as one of PoliticsNY’s “Power Players in the 2022 Elections” for his efforts to engage young voters through the Young Republicans.
As the official youth auxiliary of the Republican National Committee (RNC), the YRNF is responsible for recruiting young Americans to join the Republican Party, training them on grassroots tactics to get out the vote, and helping to elect Republican candidates of all ages. The NYSYR is the oldest and largest member of the YRNF, which itself was a product of the Republican youth movement born in New York that dates back to the founding of the Republican Party in 1856.
Giunta hopes to transform the volunteer-led YRNF into a year-round political operation that supports voter registration, ballot chasing, and other election integrity initiatives, as well as the RNC’s traditional outreach programs. His platform includes solutions that would overhaul the organization’s fundraising operations, enhance transparency and increase value for its members, and, ultimately, unite the organization so that it can be effective once again.
If elected at the national convention next summer in Nashville, TN, Giunta would become the fourth New Yorker to hold such office in the YRNF’s nearly 100-year history.
